Denzel Washington does his best Steven Seagal impersonation resulting in a movie similar to A Dangerous Man or… A Good Man???

The film starts just like a Seagal film, solo siege through a fortified defense, killing some thugs. Then gets injured to show a slight weakness. Recovers in a foreign country, flirts with a young woman. Then plays the savior, getting involved with saving civilians from mafioso before going on a revenge fueled massacre. Literally the plot of the two films mentioned above.

My general problem w/ this film is the lack of action compared to previous entries in the series. There’s only 3 fight scenes, 1 per act. The scenes are pretty brutal and justifies the R rating, but damn — compared to the 2 action scenes per act in the previous movies this is awful.

I don’t understand why this was made outside of a friendship Denzel has w/ the director (Antoine Fuqua) who made Training Day and the other Equalizer entries. This was a lazy cash grab, but at least Denzel shows he’s still in shape (by walking, climbing stairs) unlike Seagal.

First screened October 16, 2023 with special help.
