Zack Snyder’s Justice League, B

Remember how disconnected the theatrical release was? Every plothole gets resolved. Darkseid is featured, but more importantly is the Anti-Life Equation (DC’d Infinity Gauntlet) is on Earth and Lois Lane is somehow connected.

Steppenwolf gets more character development in a 5 min scene than the entirety of the Justice League movie. Cyborg was the standout of the movie as well. The mother box being a set of threes connect to his family and the loss he’s experienced. There’s a lot of blood in the movie, but still censored for a PG-13. Think Dragon Ball Z. Speaking of Dragon Ball Z, I love this depiction of Superman and Batman, they are killing shit nonchalantly because … demons not humans. Tons of cameos, this was definitively the DC Infinity War.

The negatives. 4:3 aspect ratio. Not sure why, when they didn’t use a 4:3 camera for principal photography. It could be a stylized choice to reference against a cartoon series. Soundtrack, all of it was reused from Man of Steel and Wonder Woman. None of the original mixes from theatrical release, and still missing Cyborg’s and Flash’s themes. Good pacing throughout, just too long at 4 hours. This should have been two complete movies: the first being the standoff with Superman reborn, and the second ending extended in the (spoilers) alternate Flashpoint future.

Thanks HBO Max, keep it comin’.

My DCEU rankings now:

  1. Man of Steel
  2. Wonder Woman / Zack Snyder’s Justice League
  3. Shazam
