Part sexploitation, Part hood, Straight Ruthless doesn’t even have a complete IMDB page. Why? Because it’s SEO bait for Lorenzo Pierson and Raquel Brown aka “The Body XXX”. This is a similar scam (scam #1) run by clickbait influencers that you’d see on E!’s Botched or truly and I fell for it. Put out a “movie” do a couple of interviews, a red carpet, and drive people to your social media.
Why movie in quotes? Because the program doesn’t even reach a 60 minute runtime. I mean… Tubi advertises this as a movie, but its shorter than a TV episode. If you navigate to Tubi it gives a 65 min runtime, but… that’s after 10 minutes of credits, and 5 minutes of bloopers. So scam #2, its not a movie.
Lets continue with the technical aspects of the program. It was filmed on either an iPhone, m43 or SLR. No problems, Tangerine was filmed on iPhone. But the editing, atrocious. Hard cuts in the middle of dialogue to continue a scene. Three pieces of stock footage, looped, in the SAME SCENE (how do you fucking loop stock footage and not expect the audience to notice) with a higher bitrate than the production’s camera. Inconsistent audio throughout, some scenes they have a boom, some scenes it’s onboard audio. It’s a shame, YouTuber’s have better hood movies.
The writing was actually good. The actors tried. But either the budget was nonexistent or the director was. Finally, a comment about the women, they all appear to be current/former strippers. The sexploitation angle was fine and they utilized it well, but… it’s borderline softcore in some scenes. How’d Tubi approve this?
