Japanese sadism in action.
At first, I was going to grade this A- because of the nostalgia of the setting, and then read some articles and it seems I completely misinterpreted the story. Holy shit.
Anyway.
Takeshi Miike directs this manga adaptation of yakuza being hunted by a razorblade wielding killler in Shinjuku (Tokyo) Japan. There’s a ton of gore: domestic violence, sexual based violence, piercing, blading, etc. Kind of like Hellrazer on crack. In addition to physical and psychological torture. Basically don’t view with children.
Some of the views I’m aware of. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is shown multiple times, one of the apartments I’ve been in (after renovation, don’t ask why), Shin-Okubo JR station can be seen in the background multiple times… brings back memories. After two hours though, the story ends sort of Japanesque, with everyone we’ve been introduced to dying.
