How have I not seen this until 2024.

Intro, I love H.P. Lovecraft’s short stories (even given his inherent racism) and after reviewing Suitable Flesh, this popped up on my Prime Movies feed one day, and I said, I’ll give it a shot.

Simply put, it’s as if you’re viewing a short story in the Lovecraft universe. The pacing is frantic, the horror is otherworldly (inspired by the success of Hellraiser most likely), and the acting is A+. Jefferey Combs man… always knocks it out of the park. Barbara Crampton never knew about her but she was good in this and Suitable Flesh also and finally… Ken Foree who I always remember from his Babylon 5 cameo (Season 2: GROPOS) get a hilarious death scene.

The major detractors are how most of the setting has aged poorly. From vehicles, to technology and medicine, the rate of growth between 1997 and 2010 makes a lot of movies a chore for younger people to view and sort of takes you out of full immersion.

First screened April 14, 2024 on Amazon Prime.
