“Surgery is the new sex.” Nah, that shit’s just weird.
Really weird movie… feels like something David Lynch would make if he was a sexual sadist, but more like this is the first movie of David Cronenberg I’ve seen (after references from RLM).
Plot: In the future, humans evolved technology to remove pain from the human body. Side effect of this is increase of cancerous tumors that grow into vestegial organs. A secondary sect of humans perform surgery on themselves to digest plastic, while another sect of humans perform surgery on themselves for sexual relief. Both encroach on natural selection and evolution when a boy is born with a digestive system that naturally processes plastics.
Good cinematography, acting and soundtrack. Slow and methodical. Reason for lower grading… is there’s a ton of plot threads that go unresolved throughout the film, in addition the dialogue is extremely quiet in points, where I was forced to use subtitles to follow the scene.
ALSO there’s some pedo shit where a faux autopsy is performed on the previously mentioned boy that ate plastic, and the director used a wide shot instead of a tight shot.
