On a whim, I saw this was recently added to Mubi and decided to check it out. Decent watch.
Effectively a whodunit similar to Knives Out! or an episode of Law and Order, The Black Report revolves around an A/B/C motive for murdering a Japanese businessman. The quality of the film comes from the examination of the Japanese prosecution system (which has a 99% conviction rate) and the cross-examination of the witnesses that occurs in the last act of the story.
In addition, my view has a little bias. While watching, I paralleled my experience watching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and the conversations that occurred between Togusa/Aramaki and Motoko/Batou as the pacing of the grammar is eerily similar.
